Leadership Training

Leadership is a skill, not a gift. Many of us have found ourselves assuming leadership positions for

several reasons—we believed in the cause, no one else stepped forward when the call went out, or

some persuasive person asked us to assume the role. Suddenly we find ourselves in need of

information, skills, and personal management techniques.

I can help in several different ways, both in training individual leaders and in guiding leadership into

becoming effective working teams.

Leadership Coaching: Often a leader needs a personal trainer, just as an athlete does when preparing for the Olympics. Coaching

can help a leader understand personal strengths and weaknesses, techniques for managing volunteers and working with staff, establishing

and maintaining leadership goals, dealing with conflicts, and managing meetings. The most effective approach is through my 6 session coaching

series for Leaders, conducted by telephone and email. Participants will inventory their strengths and we’ll have one-on-one conversations

and individualized exercises designed to give leaders the skill and confidence they need to be successful. ($500 for the series)

Group Training: Building a leadership team for the coming year is important in every association. Once the team has identified the individual

contributors, articulated the tasks that need to be achieved, and practiced team work, the year will flow much more efficiently and smoothly.

I will be happy to provide you with industry background information, teamwork facilitation exercises, and an understanding of how best to

work together to achieve group goals. Topics may include conducting meetings, working with CEO and Leadership, best practices in association

leadership, legal due diligence of boards, and using technology to build association community ($700 per half day + direct travel expenses).

Annual Planning: Often Leadership Retreats focus on helping volunteers and staff gain an understanding of the current environment of the

industry or field of expertise, and the development of consensus over group goals for the coming year. I can provide both, and members will

leave with a knowledge of the background against which decisions are made, and a list of activities for the coming year which they can use

as a basis for budgeting, staff evaluation, and association performance. ($700 per half day + direct travel expenses.)
